The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition.

To all my adoring fans: a full in-depth review is on the way. I understand there is no game demo available and so fans need a review of the game to know whether or not they should purchase it. Please be patient it is on the way, and will be very in-depth. For now I'll give you my tentative initial impression of the game: 1. the UI is problematic, 2. many backgrounds are great, but some are ordinary, 3. there are a lot of graphic and audio glitches, 4. the sprites could be better.

One of the most popular adventure games ever - The Secret of Monkey Island - has been remade using modern and updated technology.

For those who've never played the original Monkey Island let me put it simply: Monkey1 and Monkey2 are incredible games. The last two sequels do not do the originals justice, although Curse of Monkey Island is quite an amazing game. The game begins with Guybrush (the character who you play) declaring that he's new in town and "wants to be a pirate". This is actually quite accurate to real pirates - anybody could be one, and every pirate was treated equal on a ship (except the captain who got extra credit) no matter what they knew and could/couldn't do. In Curse of Monkey Island the crew just wants to sing and make music all the time, even that's accurate - some pirates did little more than that. Needless to say the quickest way to actually become a pirate was to join a crew and hit the seas!

But that's where the game hits a snag - Guybrush can't join a crew because all the pirates are afraid to leave the island. So instead the pirates in the SCUMM Bar tell him to do three trials, and the game progress from there.

It has been 19 years since the original game was released. This release will not just reignite a passion for adventure games in all of us Monkey Island fans - it will hopefully introduce a whole new generation to Monkey Island! Bookmark this page now, upon release we will have a full review of the new game, as well as our very own brand spanking new Amaray DVD Case Covers for the game! Not to mention many ridiculously large Boxart scans for download too (a small taste is currently available click the link to the left marked "Monkey Island Artwork" to go there!)
